The objective of Baccarat

Baccarat rules are all laid out for you below, but the objective is simple. Pick the winner or a tie between the Player and the Banker.

After all bets are made at the baccarat table, two hands of two cards each are dealt. One is yours – the Player Hand – and the other is the dealer’s – the Bank Hand.

The objective is to guess which hand will have a total closest to 9 points, and you can wager on the Bank Hand, Player Hand, or on a tie.

Let’s dive a bit deeper into online baccarat…

Baccarat rules

When you know how to play baccarat, you can have a ton of fun at Ignition Casino. Baccarat rules are quite simple – it’s the ideal game of chance when you want a fun – and possibly winning – time at an online casino or at live casino. It was a game popularized by James Bond in some movies back in the day, but you don’t need to tell anyone that you’re not wearing a stylish tuxedo in a fancy Monte Carlo casino.

You bet on the banker or the player (you) for every hand. The winner is the person who scores closest to the number 9.

If there is a tie, bets on the banker or player are returned. Once a bet has been placed, there are no opportunities for further decisions — both the banker hand and the player hand are dealt according to fixed rules, resulting in final hands of either two or three cards for each.

We’ll talk next about the value of a hand.

A hand’s score is the right digit of the sum of the two cards. The left digit is canceled – meaning you can’t go over 9. So, a 3 and a 4 is scored as a 7. But with a 6 and a 7, you cancel the the 1 (from the total of 13) and your score is 3. A pair of 5’s is scored as a zero.

The highest total can only be a maximum of 9.

Baccarat rules for the player hand are as follows: If the player’s first two cards total 6 or more, then the player must stand without drawing a card. If the player’s first two cards total 5 or less, the player must draw one additional card.

The rules for the banker hand are a bit different, and this is what gives the online casino its edge (also called the house edge).

If the banker’s first two cards total 7 or more, then the banker is required to stand – they can’t draw another card. If the banker’s first two cards total 0, 1, or 2, then the banker has to draw one card.

How to play Baccarat

Like most online casino card games, in Baccarat you’ve got a dealer – in this case, the “Banker” and you, the Player. You place bets on either the “player,” the “banker” or the “tie”, so you won’t be needing to battle wits with other players at the same time. If you’ve ever been at a live casino playing blackjack, and you “hit” when the unwritten rules say you shouldn’t, you’ve probably felt or even heard the uncomfortable pressure from the other players.

Once your bet is in, you and the Banker will each get two baccarat cards from a shoe (multiple decks in one collection of cards), face-up. You can check to make sure how many decks are in the shoe. Most places with live baccarat (like Vegas or Sydney) or online baccarat (like Ignition), use six decks for real money baccara).

Aces mean 1 point, while twos through nines are at face value (the number on the card).  Tens and face cards are worth zero points.

The dealer distributes two cards to himself for the “banker” hand and then two cards to the player.

Suits don’t matter in Baccarat, so you can just focus on the numbers.

The hand with a higher score wins. If you bet on the player – usually you! – it pays even money. Bets on banker pay 19 to 20, or .95 to 1. This allows the casino to retain a slight edge over time. Bets on the banker and the player push in the event of a tie.

Play Online Baccarat with Cryptocurrency

When you’re playing online baccarat for real money by using cryptocurrency, you’ve got a lot of great choices

Australian crypto players can use Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), and USD Tether (USDT), Bitcoin SV (BSV) and of course, the big one – Bitcoin (BTC). It’s still the most popular and you can see it often referred to at Bitcoin casino gaming instead of crypto casino.

Playing with crypto means you can get into baccarat easily and safely you’ll see the funds turn into AUD right when they hit your account, and there’s no risk of credit card fraud.

What Baccarat games can you play at Ignition Casino?

At Ignition Casino, you’ll be playing the Punto Banco style of baccarat.

It’s the world’s most commonly played style (the others are called Chemin de Fer and Baccarat Banque).

We chose Punto Banco because it’s so well-known and easy to play, and it’s what most people are familiar with. In this casino game, all the card decisions are made for you, online. As explained above, there are clear rules about when the Banker and Player must stand and when they must draw a card to complete their hand.

You’ll have a ton of fun with online baccarat at Ignition Casino, whether you’re playing in style like Bond or sitting on the deck in a t-shirt and shorts.
